‘We have seen a big transformation here’-Shop workers praise results of new Dagenham Heathway policing team.
Retail workers who work on Dagenham Heathway have praised the 14 days of action undertaken by the newly formed Dagenham Heathway policing team. The team was formed two weeks and consists of Sergeant Dhillion, 4 PCs and 4 PCSOs, alongside the use of nearby Safer Neighbourhood Teams.
Their proactive work since their formation, has seen them arrest 10 people in two weeks including a male wanted for murder. They have also collaborated with the Met Mounted Branch that visited Dagenham, British Transport Officers and Council Enforcement Officers to help clear the streets from violence, theft and anti social behaviour. The team have also assisted rough sleepers in the area by working with the council to help find accommodation and relevant help for them.
Yesterday, 13 February, a meeting was helding with local shop workers where they had the opportunity to chat with officers about ongoing issues and how the new policing team is making an impact in the area.
Staff were very positive about the two week work by the police stating: “We have seen a big transformation here and we would like to thank officers for the work they have done and hope this continues.”
Retail staff also spoke about their concerns feeling unsafe going home during the evening and the impact shop lifting has had on their store.
Police Inspector Handley reassured staff that this was not a temporary team, but a permanent one that will be working fluid hours to help staff first thing in the morning and later in the evening. He spoke about the police plans going forwarding, giving shop workers the ability to contact officers straight away and council CCTV operators to help locate possible suspects in the area.
The excelllent communication and partnership between these officers and local shop workers has made a big difference in the area. Officers have listened to the community and their needs and have acted accordingly.
Excellent team work has given very positive results.
The meeting held yesterday in Dagenham.
