On Thursday morning the Havering Daily spoke with Havering’s Leader of the Council, Councillor Ray Morgon and Cabinet Member of Regeneration Councillor Graham Williamson about the ongoing challenges the council is currently facing due to years of systematic underfaunding.

During a live feed interview on Facebook, Councillor Williamson spoke about the very hefty financial problems the council is facing. A comment made, ‘eaters of finance’ upset parents who believed the councillor had viewed their children, especially those with special educational needs as -eaters of finance’. Councillor Williamson has apologised and reassured parents he was in no way aiming this comment at children.

He said:

“Whilst discussing the Council’s financial challenges last week with the Havering Daily, I inadvertently upset some individuals when highlighting Social Services as having the largest (and growing) impact on Council finances. I failed to clarify that my reference to Social Services as ‘eaters of finance’ was directed at providers and not individual users. I sincerely apologise for the oversight and poor use of language. I can assure you I will be more mindful going forward.”
