Romford’s Brookside Theatre will kick off their 2024 season with the side-splitting, heart-warming, toe-tapping comedy, Stepping Out, from the creative team behind the hit shows ‘Allo ‘Allo, The Ladykillers and Clue.

Take a retired West End chorus girl, a disgruntled battle-axe at the piano and eight dancers with sixteen left feet and you have a feel-good comedy packed with laughter, drama and plenty of razzle-dazzle, from the author of The Darling Buds of May and A Touch of Frost.

This fabulous new staging of Richard Harris’ wonderfully funny and heart-warming play charts the lives of seven women and one man attempting to tap their troubles away at a weekly North London dance class in the 1980’s. Initially all thumbs and left feet, the group is just getting to grips with the basics when they are asked to take part in a charity performance. Over the course of several months we meet the group and all of them have a story to tell; there’s perfectionist Vera, outspoken Maxine and uptight Andy, bubbly Sylvia and shy Dorothy, eager Lynne and cheerful Rose, and, of course, Geoffrey. At the piano is the sour Mrs Fraser and, spurring them all on, the ever-patient Mavis.

This uplifting comedy originally premiered in the West End in 1984, winning the prestigious Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy and enjoying extended runs both in the West End and on Broadway. A film version of Stepping Out was released in 1991 which starred Liza Minnelli, Julie Walters, Ellen Greene and Shelley Winters.

The smash hit comedy, STEPPING OUT runs from the 14th – 18th February 2024 and tickets are on sale now, available online at brooksidetheatre.com or from the box office on 01708 755775. So tap on down to the Brookside Theatre for a hilarious night out not to be missed.
