East Area police join Box Up Crime event to listen to youths and their concerns.
On Wednesday 24 January, East Area police officers joined Box Up Crime and around twenty young people at Gascoigne Primary School, in Barking. The boxing training was followed by food and open group discussions, listening to their concerns and perceptions about police.
Officers were there to discuss stop and search, and most importantly to listen to young people’s views on the matter. The aim is to build trust and confidence with these discussions amongst young people in our community, whilst taking on board their thoughts.
‘Box Up Crime’ uses sport, and boxing in particular, as a tool to inspire, educate and develop young individuals. Since its inception, Box Up Crime has fostered a foundation for social change, raising awareness and building confidence in affected communities. Box Up Crime works closely with schools providing assistance to help with student behaviour and motivation, getting involved as early as possible in the development of an ‘at risk’ young person to help influence outcomes and improve their life chances.
