Havering Heroes: ‘I will keep fighting to stop the scourge of knife crime on our streets’-Sue Hedges from the Ricky Hayden Memorial.
Havering has many unsung heroes and Sue Hedges is definitely one of them.
In 2016 Sue and her family lost their son Ricky Hayden to knife crime, an even that none of them ever foresaw would happen in their lives. Ricky was asleep when he was awoken by thieves trying to steal his brother’s moped. Ricky was macheted in the leg and after losing so much blood, his family had to make the heartbreaking decision of trying his life support machine off. Unimaginable pain.
Now, Sue and April have spent most of their time battling against knife crime and donating vital life saving Daniel Baird bleed kits to the community in a desperate bid to stop another family from losing a loved one.
Sue is definitely a Havering Hero. She is one of the biggest hearted people in our community you can find and her commitment to tackling knife crime has been outstanding.
