Officers from the East Area Command Unit rushed in to perform life saving first aid on a man who had been struck repeatedly with a machete.

A call was made by a member of the public that approximately five males were fighting with machetes.  When officers arrived they found a 20 year old male with life threatening stab wounds to the abdomen and chest.

The officers immediately began performing life changing first aid until the London Ambulance Service were on scene, whilst keeping the victim and family on scene calm.

They placed the victim’s needs before their own not knowing if the suspect was nearby, whilst identifying forensic opportunities and relaying information which sadly turned into a murder investigation.

Chief Inspector Smith, PC Drummond, PC Owen and PC Dearsley were recognised for their professionalism, bravery, initial investigation, resilience and effective emergency-life saving skills.

These officers actions have saved a man’s life. They were the first on scene and their first aid skills kept the man alive until members of the LAS were able to take over. Great work by these officers.
