Havering continues its battle against ULEZ.
‘I don’t want Havering to be greater London, what is right for Hackney or Westminister is not right for Havering‘-Andrew Rosindell MP
On Saturday 13 January despite the cold conditions Havering residents including the Romford MP Andrew Rosindell, gathered on Roneo Corner to protest about the ultra low emission zone expansion.
“It is just an unfair tax on those who are already struggling,” said Michelle who organised Saturday’s protest. “We knew it would have heavy impacts across our borough and it has. We know of many jobs that have been lost, businesses closed, volunteers who have given up their roles, elderly residents who are housebound or whose family cannot visit them as they did. We said this in the summer and here we are now looking at the impacts it has made.”
Michelle has been protesting against this expansion for a year, across Havering, London and other outer London boroughs that have been impacted. This Saturday’s protest was well attended and received a lot of support from the public.
Romford MP Andrew Rosindell joined the protest and told the Havering Daily:”Decisions made for boroughs like Westminster cannot be used for boroughs like Havering. Outer London boroughs such as we are, are very different.
“I don’t want Havering to be greater London, what is right for Hackney or Westminister is not right for Havering. We should be running our own decisions and not have a Mayor in City Hall dictating to us. We have an anti car Mayor and an anti car authority who are not looking after the interest of people in Havering.”
Emerson Park ward Councillor Dave Godwin was also present at the protest and has been fighting the expansion for a year after serious concerns from his ward residents about the impact it would make on them.
Protesters gathered on the Roneo Corner streets and stood with placards and mega phones making their voices heard. Vehicles passing keenly supported the demonstration including bus drivers who tooted and showed their support for this protest.

Sadiq Khan is a wicked wicked man, he knows full well that ULEZ expansion will make very little difference to the already generally good air quality in Outer London, he knows it will make no difference to those afflicted by lung complaints and will not save any lives, but he still uses this as his justification for what is nothing more than a tax grab and the foundation of his true ambition pay per mile for everyone. He knows this is causing untold misery to hundreds of thousands unable to afford the daily charge or the cost of a compliant vehicle and turning many older people into prisoners in their own homes.
Although it will not save the lives he suggests, it will likely cost lives, from the stress, anxiety and imprisonment he has imposed.
But the revenue and his own inflated ego trump all other considerations.
He is nothing more than a scoundrel and his underhand methods should be subject to a public enquiry.
With a view to voting him out of office please consider supporting the Parliamentary petition –
Give Everyone within the Home Counties a vote for the London Mayor.

There is another Parliamentary petition that you may also consider supporting –
Revoke powers to charge CAZ, LEZ, and ULEZ, and require refund of past charges –

Apart from the poor level of English grammar on some of the placards, I’m surprised to see an MP, who is a member of a party that portrays itself as supporting law and order, joining a protest that is openly advocating vandalism and criminal damage (‘Blade Runners – thank you’).
There is protest – and there is incitement to criminal activity.
Khan has misled Havering Councillors and Council Officers about the number, and siting of Ulez cameras in our Borough. FUN-FACT….Khan still refuses to tell Havering Council how many cameras have been installed or where he has placed them (according to Senior Council Officers). He told them “the vast majority” of cameras would be sited on traffic lights and that “in a small number of cases” they would be sited on newly erected masts/posts. Havering Councillors are either ignorant of this fact, or they don’t care. If Havering Councillors ‘wanted’ to, they could instruct Council Officers to stop issuing the permits required by TfL to continue installing Ulez cameras (or should I say PayPerMile cameras) all over our residential streets. May I ask you a question Steven? In your opinion, does Havering have a ‘toxic air quality’ problem?
Like all urban areas, it does along the main routes. You only have to wait at a bus stop on the A12 during rush hour to see that.
