Margaret Mullane gives full support to the appointment of a Veterans Commissioner to allow veterans to have their voices heard.
Margaret Mullane, Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham, has given her full support for the establishment of a Veterans Commissioner for England. Margaret has been in contact with the Royal British Legion and has signed the petition calling on the government to make the appointment to better press the case for the benefit of ex armed services personnel.
Margaret told the Havering Daily: “At present Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have Veterans Commissioners, but England does not.In the other nations of the UK veterans know who to turn to so that their voices can be heard. That isn’t the case in England.
Veterans on leaving the armed services after serving the country sometimes struggle on re entering civilian society and need some help. I believe our veteran service men and womendeserve respect and assistance and the appointment of a Veterans Commissioner for England would be a big step forward.”
Margaret added: “Labour in Government will legislate to establish an Armed Forces Commissioner to improve service life for our Forces and their families. Labour’s Armed Forces Commissioner will be our first step in renewing Britain’s moral contract with our Forces. The Commissioner will be a strong public voice for personnel and their families, to improve service life, and strengthen parliamentary oversight. The Commissioner would be set up by a Bill in Labour’s first King’s Speech.
If I am fortunate to be elected to parliament to represent Dagenham and Rainham I commit to voting for Labour’s proposals to improve the lives of our serving armed forces men and women and veterans.”
