On Friday 22 December Robert Dean embarked on a mission to raise as much money as he could for the NSPCC. Rob had signed up for the charity’s ‘Walk for Children 2023’ fundraiser alongside many others across the UK. Rob being the local community hero he is, decided to walk from Barking to Harold Wood where he ended his marathon walk and raised nearly £200.

He told the Havering Daily: “Children may need to call NSPCC childline because of bullying, poor mental health, troubles at home and many other reasons. Much needed funds raised for the NSPCC help pay for experienced counsellors for support, to safeguard children and young people when they most need it.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported me and donated helping raise vital funds for children. Lastly, a huge thank you to Monica Puncheon whom committed to join me and ‘Walk for Children’ throughout my 20km continuous walking, without rest for over 4 and a half hours, thank you very much indeed.”

The target for the NSPCC walk was 5km, however Rob walked over 20k all the way from Barking right through to ending his journey in Harold Wood.

The NSPCC are an incredible charity who last year delivered more than 1,000 high risk counselling sessions. They are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for children who have nowhere else to turn.

Rob is a real local community champion who has spent the last four years volunteering and helping in our communities. He has helped charities, young people and homeless community groups.
Through Covid-19 lockdowns he helped vulnerable people with their shopping including delivering Christmas dinners for Tapestry to their clients with dementia and to other vulnerable Havering residents.

Throughout lockdown Rob committed to entertaining many people in order to lift spirits for good mental health by offering free online activities including bingo, quizzes and race nights which he also personally funded including raising money for other charities.

On the weekend, he personally helps young people into work to gain skills for their future and also volunteers weekly at his local church. he has over the past four years given approximately 2000 hours for unpaid volunteer work in our communities.

Rob you really our a local hero! Rob’s walk raised a whopping £185!
