Officers have been cracking down on violent crime across Dagenham. As part of their ongoing work to tackle violence, officers have arrested a 14 and 15 year old after they were found carrying knives.

On Wednesday, 20th December police arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon. Officers patrolling the Heathway area approached two boys who immediately ran off.

One of the boys, aged 15, was found to be carrying a knife. He was charged on 21st December with possession of an offensive weapon and is bailed to appear at Barkingside Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 10 January 2024.

On Saturday, 16th December, a 14-year-old boy was charged with possession of offensive weapon in a public place following an incident earlier that day at a takeaway shop in Heathway, Dagenham where a machete was recovered. He is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 3 January 2024.

Both incidents clearly show that using stop and search is a vital tool in steering young people away from going out with knives and preventing the most serious crimes.

Next month sees the launch of the dedicated Dagenham Heathway team. This team will be in addition to the current Neighbourhoods policing team to tackle violence and other crime in the area.

Great work by our officers.
