‘National Debtline figures are truly shocking and a damning indictment of 13 years of Tory government failure.’
‘So many families are struggling from one week to the next to survive’-Margaret Mullane.
Figures released by the National Debtline have shown that 6.5 million people this Christmas are torn between heating their homes or buying food and presents for their family.
In response, Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham, Margaret Mullane, told the Havering Daily:
“These figures released by National Debtline are truly shocking. That 6.5 million people in our country at Christmas will be torn between heating their homes or buying food or presents for loved ones and thinking of going into further debt is a damning indictment on 13 years of Tory government failure.
I know from my work in the community in Dagenham and Rainham that so many families are struggling from one week to the next to survive.
There is a desperate need for a change of government to give greater priority to the needs of working people and families in despair. We are in the sixth wealthiest nation on earth, it cannot be right nor fair that this is the reality for so many people.”
