An amazing ‘Table of love and loss’ event was held yesterday, to bring hope to so many families who have lost a loved one. The event held at East Ham Town Hall, was organised by Ayse Huseyin in memory of her cousin Jan Mustafa and all the other families who have lost a loved one.

Over 50 families were present to share their stories of loss, but most importantly of love and hope that by working together, they can find a way forward.

This was a remarkable afternoon that saw not only endless families attend, but also many organisations present such as the police, victim support groups, anti knife crime organisations, suicide prevention groups, to support families.

Newham Mayor Rokshana Fiaz gave an emotive speech on how women are warriors in today’s society. Ayse spoke about her cousin Jan and shared beautiful words from Jan’s diary, remembering the love she gave to so many others before being murdered.

All these families have lost a loved one and yesterday, they had the opportunity to come together and unite with a sense of hope.

Victim Commissioner Claire Waxman was also present, as well as former east London gangster Chris Lambrianou who has spent many, many years helping former offenders reform and now supporting families of those who have lost children to knife crime.
