Eleven year old boy who overcame a brain tumour now raises funds for the hospital who saved his life.
Dagenham Dean is a real community champion who is spending his time raising money and collecting donations for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Eleven year old Dean was diagnosed with a brain tumour in January 2021. In September, Dean was given the all clear from doctors at Great Ormond Street hospital and he began his life once again.
Now, Dean, who lives in Dagenham, has chosen to raise money and collect donations for the London based hospital that saved his life as means to give back.
His mum Nikki told the Havering Daily: “He used books at the hospital that were donated by others and saw how important all these donations were. He now really wants to give back to Great Ormond Street as a way of saying thank you.”
Dean had four rounds of chemotherapy and under went surgery to remove the tumour. He is now cancer free, but suffers with his mental health at times.
“It takes time,” continued Nikki. “It really is very hard when its your child to watch him go through something like this. I was told I had to be strong to help Dean, but he really was amazing throughout it all. He really has been through it, but he made it and has been incredible.”
Dean has set up a Go Fund Me page and is also collecting books, or food donations for parents whose children are under going treatment at the hospital.
Leader of Barking and Dagenham Council, Councillor Darren Rodwell told the Havering Daily:”Anyone who has gone through life changing experiences and is now giving back to others like Dean is, shows true leadership and courage.
“I am very proud to have Dean as one of my residents and thank him for his incredible determination in giving back to others.”
Well done Dean, you really are an amazing community champion!
