Havering GLA Member calls on London Mayor to allow NHS Ambulances to be exempt from ULEZ charges.
It was revealed last week that the NHS is facing a potential £65 million bill to make ambulances ULEZ compliant.
This week, Havering and Redbridge GLA Assembly Member and City Hall Conservatives Transport spokesperson Keith Prince has written to Sadiq Khan calling for NHS Ambulances to be exempt from ULEZ charges beyond 2025.
In an open letter to the Mayor, Mr Prince says: “The recent revelation that the NHS will have to spend nearly £65 million in order to make ambulances ULEZ compliant will have come as a shock to many Londoners.
“At a time when, post-pandemic, inflation is high and budgets are tight, there can be few people who genuinely believe that this is a sensible burden to place on our Health Service.
“Given this, I am writing to ask that you extend the ULEZ exemption for ambulances well beyond October 2025. As you know, the impact on London’s air quality of such an exemption will be miniscule but the saving will make a very real difference.”
