Community Appeal: Please help save the Sycamore Trust Autism Hub in Romford following its threat of closure due to budget cuts.
Petition launched to save Romford hub!
The Sycamore Trust UK are a fantastic charity that truly are a lifeline for so many families and adults across Havering and Barking and Dagenham.
The charity is well known across east London for their many programmes that support parents and families. They run parenting programmes, young people services, children’s provisions, the list is long and the work they do across our communities is invaluable.
The charity has an amazing hub in the Liberty in Romford. It is a place of safety for many with autism who may find themselves in the middle of a busy, noisy shopping centre and need a quiet place.
Sadly, due to the budget cuts by Havering Council, this hub is now under threat of closure. To say that its closure would be detrimental for our communities, is an understatement.
Havering Council have decided to withdraw their funding for support services for adults in the Havering autistic community.
The hub has been in the Liberty Centre since 2015 and has provided support, guidance and respite for the Havering autistic community. It is also the home of a large number of services including a peer support group for young adults on the spectrum, an outreach service for hard-to-reach adults and the Autism Steering group that feeds into the council’s Autism Strategy.
The hub also includes a sensory room, where autistic people can seek shelter if they are overwhelmed.
At the Havering Daily, we have worked for many years with members of the Sycamore Trust UK and have witnessed first hand the incredible work the team does across the loca area. The closure of this hub would mean a huge loss to those in our community who already face so many challenges. This hub is a vital lifeline for our autistic community.
A petition has been launched in a bid to save the hub.
Please add your voice and support our autistic community.
