‘Zara’s murder was a horrific crime deserving the harshest of sentences’-Keith Prince AM.
Havering”s Opposition Leader, Councillor Keith Prince and London Assembly Member for Havering and Redbridge, has issued a statement following the Court of Appeal’s decision on Friday to lower Jordan McSweeney’s prison sentence.
Mc Sweeney pleaded guilty to Zara Aleena’s murder in 2022 and was sentenced to a life sentence.
Zara was brutally murdered on brook Road, Ilford, leaving her with 46 injuries that finally resulted in her death.
On Friday 3 November McSweeney won his appeal to have his minimum tariff reduced from 38 to 33 years.
In response, Councillor Prince said:
“I am very disappointed by the Court of Appeal’s decision to reduce the minimum prison sentence for the man who murdered Zara Alleena. While I respect the Court’s decision, Zara’s murder was a horrific crime deserving of the harshest possible sentence. We can take heart from the fact that her killer will spend at least 33 years behind bars. My thoughts are with Zara Aleena’s family and friends at this time.”
