Special event held to tackle violence against women and girls by East Area officers.
On Monday 30, October a special event was held in Barkingside to tackle violence against women and girls. Acting Inspector Reshma Sher arranged an evening event for local female residents from across the community of Redbridge to come together with local female police officers at Fullwell Library to discuss the East Area plan to tackle violence against women and girls and to listen to ideas put forward by the community.
The event was well attended by several community members, including a family member of a local female who tragically lost her life to domestic abuse, representatives from a local school, a church, the local authority and the Deputy Mayor of Redbridge.
Neighbourhoods Superintendent Lisa Butterfield said: “Our new plan is centred around rebuilding trust, reducing crime and setting high standards in policing, with a primary focus on listening and responding to community concerns and needs. We want to put community policing at the centre of what we do and we can’t do that ourselves. Our event was well attended by local women and school age girls who are as committed as we are to end Violence against women and girls in Redbridge”.
The attendees had the chance to complete a feedback survey and made recommendations on what actions they would like the Met Police to take next. The feedback is looked at carefully and progressed where it is possible.
East Area officers will continue to host events across the BCU.
