Jon Cruddas MP and Margaret Mullane, Labour PPC for Dagenham and Rainham, have sent their congratulations to local Mental Health Nurse, Shalini Ramguttee. Shalini won the London Royal College of Nursing’s Rising Stars award to recognise excellence in patient care, innovation, and leadership from London’s Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic nursing community.

Shalini works at South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust. She was inspired to go into nursing by her parents who are both nurses and each have over 40 years of nursing experience. The award was in recognition for Shalini’s work which has improved patient care and staff development and retention. She runs regular pastoral support sessions and drop-in clinics for nursing support workers and holds 1:1 career development/coaching sessions for nursing support workers across the Trust.

Jon told the Havering Daily: “I have written to Shalini to both congratulate her on her award and thank her for her devoted service. I understand that she was inspired to join the NHS and become a nurse from the years of nursing service of her mum and dad, what a wonderful tribute to her parents.”

Margaret added: “We know how hard pressed the NHS is and in particular the massive strain on mental health services, so to hear of the great work being done by a young nurse from Rainham is truly inspiring. I wish her well in her career in nursing.”
