Havering Mayor launches Poppy Appeal in Elm Park.
Havering Mayor Councillor Stephanie Nunn and Consort Councillor Barry Mugglestone yesterday, Thursday 25 October launched the Poppy Appeal in Elm Park.
Councillor Nunn and Councillor Mugglestone attended the Royal British Legion in Elm Park to officially launch the annual appeal.
Councillor Nunn thanked residents and said:
“Thank you for inviting me to the Elm Park Branch of the Royal British Legion to share the launch of the 2023 Poppy Appeal with you all.
As you know my Consort Cllr Barry Mugglestone and I are both members of the RBL Elm Park, Barry is the Chairman, and we are both very active in the Poppy Appeal Team there.
As we pay tribute to those who have served and sacrificed during the period of Remembrance this year, we hope you will show your support to all the tireless Poppy Appeal collectors in your community. Without these collectors, partners, volunteers and the general public the Royal British Legion would not be able to continue supporting serving and ex serving men and women and their families.
A sincere thank you to all who volunteer their time.
Poppies are worn to show support for the Armed Forces community, please wear a poppy with pride and support this year’s Poppy Appeal.”
Councillor Barry Mugglestone added:
“Thank you Madame Mayor for coming to the Elm Park RBL Branch to launch the 2023 Poppy Appeal.
We have many branches across Havering, who do great work in raising funds and awareness of the Poppy Appeal. I would like to thank all the volunteers in Havering.
But as today in Elm Park I pay special thanks to the Elm Park Branch, who I know engage well in a very inclusive collection team.
So I must mention Barking & Dagenham College Students and the Sea Cadet unit based in wood lane, both of these organisations raise a huge amount of money.
Also thanks to Joanne White and her Poppy Team, last yearthe Branch raised £43,836, the best total ever, so well done.
I would like to thank all those who donate to the Poppy Appeal.
I hope all the Branch’s have a successful year.”
Barking and Dagenham College students also received their ten year awards for service to the Elm Park Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal by the Mayor and Consort.
