A special event is taking place in Newham this December to remember all those who lost their life in tragic circumstances. The event includes Havering bereaved mum and anti knife crime campaigner Sue Hedges who lost her son Ricky in 2016.

The Table of Love and Loss has been organised by Ayse Hussein as a heartfelt tribute to her cousin Jan Mustafa, who tragically lost her life in Newham and has now established ‘Jan’s Legacy’ to support and raise awareness of violence against women and girls.

Ayse told the Havering Daily: “The Table of Love and Loss aims to bring together people of all ages from the community, as well as friends and families to offer support to those who are missing a family member, or have endured the painful loss of a loved one.”

The event is being held on December 3, at East Ham Town Hall, and features numerous different organisations that are dedicated to providing support in areas such as domestic abuse, mental health, honour-based killings, stalking, homicide, knife crime, and modern day slavery.

Guest speakers include the Victim’s Commissioner Claire Waxman OBE, Quinton Milise a Professional Youth Mentor and Spoken Word Artist, and host Anjum Mouj from the London Black Women’s Project.
