‘I’m praising the stabber-I hope the pigs don’t fully recover’-Comments police officers have to deal with on a daily basis.
Last year two Metropolitan Police Officers were viciously stabbed for doing their job. One, was stabbed five times-in the head and in the lungs that caused a collapsed lung. The other was stabbed under the arm that went through the muscle and arrived to the bone. Yet, despite their serious injuries, the officers caught the suspect and removed the knife.
The video released by the Met, clearly shows one of the officers covered in blood, with the knife in his hand, having removed it from the suspect.
The man who caused these horrific injuries, was found guilty this week of attempted murder amongst other charges.
The bravery of these officers is unquestionable, their heroic actions clearly removed a very dangerous man off the streets of London. However, social media that is quick to knock down every police officer possible, in every possible manner, yesterday highlight just how disgusting people can be.
A comment left on a social media outlet on the Havering Daily post yesterday wrote: “I’m praising the stabber-I hope the pigs don’t fully recover.”
There are rightly reasons why certain officers do deserve criticism and there have been some unspeakable crimes committed by officers. There are also thousands of officers whose actions such as the ones last year in central London, shown incredible bravery that most of us would not be able to show.
Comments such as these are beyond repulsive and really have no place in our society. To constructively criticise aspects of policing and certain actions, is needed in a balanced society, but revolting comments such as these have no place anywhere except the gutter.
This comment highlights a just a small view on the comments police officers receive everyday doing their job. Imagine, doing such a vital job in our community, repeatedly putting your life at risk and being shouted comments like these on a daily basis?
Thank you to the many, many officers who today, once again are out on our streets and doing a job that most people who criticise on social media would never be able to do. Thank you for being there when so many others are not and ultimately thank you for putting your life on the line for us.
