Six year old Cali-Maii from Elm Park really is a hero. In June this year, her mum Lauren who is severely asthmatic, suffered an asthma attack which lead her going into a cardiac arrest. It was little Cali-Maii’s swift actions, that saved Lauren’s life.

This week, Cali-Maii received a special award from Havering Mayor Councillor Stephanie Nunn, presented to her at school, to highlight just how brave and incredible her actions were that led her to saving her mum’s life.

In June, Lauren awoke very wheezy and with a tight chest, she told the Havering Daily: “My chest was very tight and painful and I couldn’t walk or talk. I knew it was going to be a bad attack. I used my nebuliser which normally helps, but this time it didn’t.

“Just after 2am Cali-Maii woke up and came to me and right from the start she was amazing.”

Six year old Cali not only began to comfort her mum, but then picked up Lauren’s phone and dialled 999, asking for an ambulance, giving out her address and explained to the call operator what was happening. She then managed to unlock the front door and let the paramedics in. She also kept a watch on her little sister who is just 2 years old, who was asleep in the room next door.

“Luckily the paramedics arrived very quickly and the last thing I remember was them standing in front of me.

“When I woke up two days later, I was told that I had been in a coma for two days and that I had been given CPR. They told me that Cali-Maii was the real hero who had saved my life.”

This week, Councillor Nunn visited Elm Park Primary and presented six year old Cali with a special Mayor’s Award to praise Cali-Maii’s life saving actions.

Well done Cali-Maii! You really are a hero and the community thinks you are truly amazing!
