‘We have just passed the first anniversary of that calamitous Tory government budget. The lasting legacy of that mismanagement of the economy is being shouldered by local people.’
Margaret Mullane–‘First anniversary misery for Dagenham and Rainham residents’.
The Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham, spoke on the impact for so many local families of the disastrous Tory budget from Liz Truss one year ago.
Margaret told the Havering Daily: “We have just passed the first anniversary of that calamitous Tory government budget masterminded by the then Prime Minister, Liz Truss. The lasting legacy of that mismanagement of the economy is being shouldered by local people.
13,500 families in Dagenham and Rainham could be hit by an average £320 on their mortgage repayments.”
Margaret went added: “The Home Builders Federation released data today showing that the UK is now ‘the most difficult place to find a home in the developed world’.
The struggle for young families in particular is severe. Tory economic incompetence has forced up mortgage repayments and private rent levels here are the highest in Europe with a quarter of private renters having to spend more than 40% of their incomes on rent.
We need a completely fresh approach to housing. That means a significant council house building programme and rent controls to rein in escalating private rents.”
