As from Monday 23 October Havering Council will be working with Urbaser a new refuse and recycling provider for the borough.

The council refuse teams and Urbaser were out in Romford market on Friday to chat to local residents about the new changes and answer any questions residents had.

The new service provider will allow residents to now put glass in the orange sacks and clothes in separate sacks, to be recycled. As from January 2024,stronger recycling sacks will be issued to residents to allow the additional weight of the glass items.

No changes will be made to the way our refuse is collected, the dates and crews will stay the same, but residents will see new refuse carts out and about.

The new recycling additions include glass, plastic packaging, batteries and small appliances can also now be recycled placed in separate containers, and clothes.

Havering Council’s recycling team were on hand to chat with residents about the importance to recycle as much as we can including our food items and do a fantastic job in the borough promoting less waste.

A leaflet will be sent out to all homes with clear instructions, informing residents of the new changes. This will now give residents more opportunity to recycle more and the level of waste the borough is producing.

Andy Peters from Urbaser with Havering Council Deputy, Leader Councillor Gillian Ford.
