Rainham man branded ‘local legend’ after sitting on a ladder in front of ULEZ camera.
On Sunday 17 September, A Rainham man was out in his community when he spotted the ULEZ mobile camera van parked up between Rainham Road and Thoroughgood Way. The man who did not wish to be named, got out of his vehicle, made a quick make shift sign from a piece of cardboard he had stating, ‘ULEZ Cam’, got a set of ladders out and sat in front of the camera with the sign.
He told the Havering Daily: “It’s just not right. I see people in the community struggling, people can’t afford to buy food, pay their bills. My mortgage has gone up by 50%, it is always the everyday people like us that get in the neck.
“ULEZ is impacting those who are already struggling. I had relatives who needed care and the care workers were brilliant. They are on low incomes and run older cars and it is people like them who this impacts. Or the elderly who are struggling on their pensions and trying to make ends meet with this cost of living crisis.
“Someone has to do something to help, do something for those who literally can’t afford to live. I see people struggling so much. It really is awful.”
The Rainham man has a ULEZ compliant car, but his work van is non ULEZ compliant.
“I am a general builder and run my own business with my partner, the van is not ULEZ compliant and we have given up using it now. This is making a huge impact on business owners right across London. It is impacting so many people everywhere.”
The Rainham man sat on his ladder for nearly an hour with the sign in a desperate bid to help people in his community.
“I saw it and thought I had to do something. I see the reality of the impact ULEZ is having across our communities. I see just how much people are struggling. It is always the everyday person like us that pays the heaviest price.”
The man was branded a ‘local legend’ and ‘hero’ for his actions and was supported by the community.
“People were coming out and giving me fist pumps, cheering at me as they drove by, tooting horns at me. I was very grateful for their support. It’s all about supporting each other in the community.”

Wonderful
What a great man.
Ulez is an absolute money spinner which needs constant battling to hopefully overthrow
He should be awarded a medal for services to the community.
As the whole justification for ULEZ expansion is based on a foundation of lies, manipulations and more lies with little consideration for those that have to pay the price, Khan’s decision should at least be subject to a public enquiry, but really he should be subject to a criminal investigation for obtaining money by deception.
There is a new parliamentary petition that needs support – Give Everyone within the Home Counties a vote for the London Mayor.
