‘Fiesta-the people’s play about the people’s car’.

Havering Changing, in association with Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch have announced the world premiere of ‘Fiesta– the people’s play about the people’s car’, written and directed by Joe Lichtenstein.

The new production plays at Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch 5 – 8 October 2023.

 This really is the end of an era. Ford confirmed that the production of the Fiesta came to an end in June 2023, almost half a century after it started. The Fiesta is the UK’s all-time bestselling car and has been sold in more than 50 countries, with over 22 million vehicles produced since 1976. In that time, the Fiesta has become an icon in the UK, regularly topping the list of best-selling vehicles on these shores over the last decade and beyond. 

Fiesta at Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch is a new play to celebrate its legacy. Sharing stories from Ford Fiesta creators, owners, neighbours, and friends. The team behind the production visited the sights and sounds of the area of the Orchard Village, the former housing estate for Ford Factory workers, to research and host interactive workshops over several months with the local community. This celebratory new production has been made in partnership with local people and will feature their stories.

Joe Lichtenstein, writer and director of Fiesta says; “Fiesta is a series of collective vignettes that capture the moments of loving the iconic Fiesta from the people that worked at the factory, whether in the canteen or on the production line, capturing memories and cherished moments to say goodbye to a car but not to the love that lives on for it”.

It’s amazing to think that most people living within Havering have been touched by this iconic car and have a story to share whether that’s owning a Fiesta, riding in one, or remembering the vast Dagenham Ford factory located on the A13.

Farewell Fiesta, it’s time to say goodbye to the little car that touched us all – thanks for all the memories.
