All coppers are bastards-really?

There are some across parts of London that believe that de-funding the police is the only right way forward. There are however, a majority who look in complete dismay when asked if they would like the police de-funded and removed. Most, when asked the question of police de-funding look baffled and some even go as far as to ask, ‘Is this a trick question? What a ridiculous question!’

Sadly, police de-funding began many years ago as austerity kicked in and the police forces came under the axe and lost billions. Those still peddling this de-funding can clearly see all around them the impact de-funding the police has had across the country. Regular media headlines of cops not answering burglary call outs, vehicle thefts, assault investigations not carried out, the list is long and the impacts of these cuts have left their mark across our police forces nationally.

For many years, brutal cuts to many vital services across our community has left the police as pretty much the only service the public can turn to. Cuts to our health system, social services, youth services, and of course the cuts to our mental health facilities that sees frontline Met Police officers respond to more mental health call outs than any other service.

A vast part of frontline officer’s shift consists of staying with a person who is sadly in a terrible place mentally and officers make the judgment call that they are in need, despite not being mental health specialists and choose, despite once again, a heavy workload, to stay with the person in need rightly so.

Shortages to other emergency services also sees police officers on a whole, be the first responders to victims of knife crime and we sadly know there are many everyday. Police officers are the first to administer life saving first aid, hold a victim’s hand and do their best to reassure them as they lie on the ground bleeding.

There are teams of detectives across London investigating the most horrendous crimes on children and women who work above and beyond their call, to secure justice for these victims. Detectives who have had to watch the most horrendous footage of abuse that will leave a scar and frequently sees officers mentally broken.

Frontline officers have the toughest job in our society today, they answer calls that most of us watch on social media in complete horror. Knife crime, assaults, rape, theft, the list is long and the endless filming of every event they attend, means they spend more time on our screens, than award winning actors do. It is also important to remember that every single one of these calls may also be the last they attend, as we recently saw in Nottinghamshire where an office paid the ultimate price for his bravery.

There are thousands of officers across the country whose heroic actions will not be written about today, but they will have saved a life. As those go and hit their keyboard with voracious appetite for police bashing-ask yourself this-whose life have you saved today?

Balanced viewpoint looking at the vast majority of good that officers do rather than
home in on the social media hype and edited videos etc. Thank you for trying to redress this ongoing lynching

It’s hardly lynching. And of course the stories regarding all ranks of MET police abusing their positions to rape, assault, attack, coerce, and go around committing crimes like they are untouchable, are going to make the news – they are doing the complete opposite of what they are paid to do! Even able to keep their pensions after being convicted! All trainee police and serving police should be receiving extensive psychiatric assessments on a regular basis, including the IAT Tests from Harvard.
