Severe asthmatic Lauren from Romford suffered an attack in June which lead her going into a cardiac arrest and needing CPR. As a result, Lauren was placed into a coma and has only just made a recovery over the last few weeks. Her recovery comes thanks her 6 year old daughter Cali-Maii who dialed 999, asked for the paramedics and gave them their home address. She then unlocked the door, let the paramedics in, watched over her 2 year old sister and even phoned her grandmother to come and help.

Lauren told the Havering Daily: “I owe her everything. The paramedics told my mum that if Cali-Maii hadn’t called, or even left it 5 minutes later, I wouldn’t be here now.”

Lauren is a single mum with two young girls and has suffered with severe asthma since the age of 6 years old. Her daughter Cali was also diagnosed with asthma at the age of two and has attended numerous hospital appointments and is now under a special asthma clinic. Sadly, asthma has always been a part of Lauren and her family’s life.

“It was on June 23 that this terrible attack happened. I woke up around 2am, extremely wheezy and with my chest tight and painful. I couldn’t walk or talk and knew this was going to be a really bad attack. I used my nebuliser back to back which normally helps, but it didn’t.

“Around 2.15am Cali woke up and came to me and from the start she was amazing.

“I couldn’t believe just how switched on she was, she has her own personal struggles and additional needs, yet she was comforting me, hugging me, and telling me she loved me. She could also see there was a problem by the way I wasn’t responding.

“At this stage she picked up my phone and dialled 999, she asked for the ambulance, gave out our address and explained to to the call operator what was happening. She also managed to unlock the front door and let the paramedics in.

“Alongside all this, she kept an eye on her sister who was sleeping in the next room.

“Luckily the paramedics arrived very quickly and the last thing I remember was them standing in front of me.

“I woke up two days later and told I had been in a coma and that I had been given CPR. The doctors and nurses at Queen’s hospital at the Intensive Care Unit and the paramedics crews were absolutely amazing and I cannot thank them enough. However, they told myself and my mother that it was in fact Cali-Maii who was the real hero and had saved my life.

“I view this as a miracle and my little girl really is a hero. I don’t think she will ever fully understand what she did for me.”

Cali-Maii, you really are a hero!
