Havering Climate Coalition urge council to take action now amidst Rainham’s environmental disaster.
Members of Havering Climate Coalition have written to Havering’s Council Leader, Councillor Ray Morgon asking the council for urgent action now amidst the serious health and environmental concerns for Rainham and Havering residents following the latest series of fires at Launders Lane.
The group have asked Mr Morgon to urgently test the soil and monitor the air in preparation for remediation.
The group are extremely concerned about the health concerns for residents living in the area and the environmental disaster the area is faced with.
Please see the letter below to Councillor Ray Morgon.
Dear Cllr. Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council,
As a Coalition, we retain our grave concerns for the health of Rainham residents amidst this environmental disaster at Launders Lane; especially for babies, children and pregnant women.
While it is the Council’s duty to do everything possible with the greatest urgency to test the soil and monitor the air in preparation for remediation, as the fires continue to burn – releasing poisonous PM2.5 into the air – we believe it is imperative that the Council updates residents regularly, including issuing live health and safety advice as the fires burn putting their health in active jeopardy.
Rainham residents are understandably terrified, and require appropriate support during this health crisis.
Yours sincerely,
