Volunteers leaving St Francis Hospice following the ULEZ expansion.

Charities and hospices across outer London are now losing vital volunteers as the introduction of the ULEZ expansion begins.

Tracy from Havering spoke to the Havering Daily about the impact the expansion has had for St Francis Hospice.

“I know many charities will be suffering due to this ULEZ expansion. I support St Francis Hospice where I have been a ward volunteer for 34 years. The hospice relies heavily on volunteers and most are retired people with older cars.

“Before Covid there were over 1,000 volunteers, as of May this year there were 600.

“I am really upset seeing how many volunteers are now leaving. I spoke with another volunteer this week whose car is also not ULEZ compliant. Now instead of a ten minute journey by car, she will need to take three buses and go via Romford. This is not ideal with the darker nights coming.

“Havering-atte-Bower is not easy to get to via public transport and I fear many other volunteers may leave as a result of this unfair situation.”

I think if you bothered to check TFL’s ULEZ postcode checker you will find the Hospice is within the zone, but even if it was just outside how many of it’s volunteers live within the new zone but are no longer able to drive their non compliant cars without incurring Khan’s charge? Typical pro ULEZ comment short on facts and empathy.

It’s not in the zone, the zone starts on the south side of the village green whereas the roads on both sides of the hospice are outside the zone.
If people live within the zone and have a non-compliant vehicle then they avta pay every time they drive not just when they drive to the hospice which is outside the zone anyway.
My comment is factual whereas yours is politicised opinion.

At risk of turning this into a spat, I am afraid sir it is you that are politicised, your posts show you are unwilling to accept the word of a spokesperson for the Hospice featured in the original article that ULEZ expansion is having an effect.
I took the trouble of putting the Hospices postcode into the TFL website which confirmed it was in the zone, either you are wrong or the website is wrong, as for prople who live in the zone, the whole point is at £12.50 a day people will minimise their daily journeys to essential travel only, as they will now think twice about using their cars it is perfectly understandable it will have a knock on effect on things such as volunteer work. This is all so unnecessary as the London Mayor himself confirmed back in July 21 he had no intention of extending the ULEZ to the GLA boundaries as it was unnecessary and he favoured targetting pollution hotspots instead.

Literally drove past the hospice a few days ago, it’s not in the zone. Never said it wasn’t affected by it, just that it’s not in the zone.
Nope, my comments are not politicised at all, I’m just stating facts. It’s you that is banging on about the Mayor etc.
Waffle on if you want to, if it’s non-factual rubbish posing as fact I’ll shoot it down, if it’s not you can carry on with your soap-boxing unimpeded.

On the basis of this it was Covid that harmed volunteering. May is three months before the August 29th implementation date so I think it’s safe to say ULEZ had nothing to with the reduction.
