Fantastic Harold Hill police basketball event sees hundreds of youngsters join in.
Well done to police officers in Harold Hill who have been hosting a series of fantastic basketball sessions for children in the area.
The Havering Daily joined yesterday’s event in Central Park to chat with officers and the local community who came out to join in these events.
‘United Basketball’ is being run by Sergeant Richard Ruane and members of the Heaton and Gooshays Safer Neighbourhood Teams. The teams bid for a grant that gave them funding to host this summer project for the community and has allowed them the opportunity to provide coaching sessions using Barking and Dagenham (BAD) THUNDER, an established team in the area.
The project is also being supported by Basketball England who have donated equipment and are supporting this amazing community event.
Hundreds of local children have so far attended from all ages and it was great to see officers and youths playing basketball together at Central Park. Parents came and watched and supported these sessions.

Trophies and prizes were also handed out at the end of the day, alongside special small basketballs for the children to bring home.
This was a fantastic community event that saw officers and their local community work handed in hand and bring many smiles to children’s faces.

Well done to Sergeant Ruane and his teams for their work and to Jan Sergeant, Ward member for Gooshays who worked with her community and her local police team to make this event happens.
