Quick response by police sees minimal disruption in Romford.
Plans to cause disruption across Romford Town Centre on Wednesday 16 August were scuppered by police whose quick response prevented any criminal damage or planned anti social behaviour.
Seven arrests were made and numerous dispersals undertaken not related to the planned disruption.
East Area officers were aware of the social media event that had called on similar scenes that had taken place on Oxford Street several weeks ago. However, due to a heightened police presence, no damage is believed to have taken place.
A Section 35 Dispersal Order had been issued allowing officers to move individuals along and a combined partnership of officers from the Public Order section, British Transport Police, Safer Transport Teams, Town Centre officers and business funded enforcement officers, stopped any impending trouble.
High visibility patrols were carried out across the Town Centre on Wednesday evening providing support to businesses and residents in the area.
Neighbourhoods Chief Inspector Nixon said: “We have no tolerance for this kind of behaviour. Thankfully there were no offences or disorder related to the social media information. We will continue to work closely with our local partners to ensure that anyone intending to commit offences in our town centre is dealt with promptly.”
