Yesterday’s Upminster by-election saw one of the lowest turnouts to date with only 25% coming out to vote. There were 2,609 votes cast out of an electorate of 10,244.

The election was won by Jacqueline Williams the Upminster Residents Association candidate with 1642 votes, with Edward Green the former Hornchurch and Conservative candidate now Independant, coming second with 421 votes.

The results are as follows:

Thomas Clarke- Liberal Democrats 35 votes

Melanie Collins-Green Party 115 votes

David Durant-Independent 150 votes

Edward Green-(Conservative) 421 votes

John Sullivan-Labour 234 votes.

Jacqueline Williams-Upminster Residents Association 1642 votes.
