A special celebration held in Hornchurch as Ruby celebrates her 104 birthday.
A very special party was held yesterday in Hornchurch as Ruby celebrated her 104 birthday! What an incredible achievement!
Ruby was born at home in Hornchurch on 10 august 1919, to parents Annie and Harry. Ruby came from a big family of 7 children- 5 boys and 2 girls. She had a lovely childhood and enjoyed growing up with her brothers and sisters, enjoying games in the streets with their friends.
Ruby was called up for Military training at the age 17, but was discharged due to ill health.
Her first job was in a tobacconist in Victoria Road in Romford at the age of just 15. She then later went on to work for the council in the Town Hall as a clinic clerk and later in her career Ruby transferred to Langtons in Hornchurch where she stayed until she retired 30 years later.
Ruby has spent her later years at her home in Hornchurch where she enjoys company from her family and her carers and not forgetting a decent helping of chocolate!
Yesterday, Wednesday 9th August, Ruby had a birthday party surrounded by friends and staff at the Day centre run by Radfield Home Care in Havering.
And of course we had to ask-what is Ruby’s secret of ageing well?
Avoid the stresses of married life, live every day full of friends and happiness and not to forget a little bit of chocolate!
Happy Birthday Ruby!
