VIDEO:East Area Police host ‘New Met for London’ event in Redbridge.
Every borough across the capital is hosting a ‘New Met for London’ event with the aim to encourage more conversations with the local communities.
The plan looks to deliver ‘more trust, less crime and high standards across London and keeping the communities at its heart.
Yesterday, 31 July, the first East Area event was held at Redbridge Town Hall and was very well attended.
The event was lead by the Borough Commander Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell and saw the Met Commissioner attend. Neighbourhoods Superintendent Lisa Butterfield and Chief Inspector Kaur were also present to chat with the local community about the hard work east area are doing across all three boroughs, working hand in hand with all local communities.
Redbridge Council Leader Jas Athwal and Cabinet Member for Enforcement Councillor Khayer Chowdhury were present, alongside Havering and Redbridge GLA Member Keith Prince. Also present was April Mehmet from Walk it Out- an initiative that tackles violence against women and girls, Perry Blake from 21 Up a project that supports youths, and Samina Khalid a bereaved mother who lost her son to knife crime.
East Area Police have been working very closely with the local community and their officers run many initiatives across all three east London boroughs that support women in the battle against violence and the reduction of anti social behaviour and knife crime across our town centres.
The volunteer police cadets were also at the event, the cadets across the three boroughs do a fantastic job working in the community and supporting many local groups.
The aim of these events is to encourage conversation with the communities and here across east area, the police have already been doing this for a long period of time.
