Do you want to perform on stage at the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch this Summer?
The theatre has opportunities for young people aged 12-18 from Havering to get involved in their exciting new production ‘New Beginning’.
The Queen’s Theatre are looking for young people who enjoy exploring physical performance, are confident handling large objects and props, and are excited by the idea of creating an interactive theatrical experience for an audience.
‘New Beginning’ is a one-of-a-kind 60-minute performance experience set in a fictional forest, questioning the impact we have on the natural world. New Beginning will immerse audiences in our future planet, exploring the magic of forests and the devastating effect of climate change.
The collaborative effort behind this ambitious project is a partnership between Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch, design studio Variable Matter, and the new digital Performance Lab at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Young people will work alongside director/designer David Shearing and Young People’s Director James Watson.
All rehearsals and performances will take place at Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch between Saturday 26 August and Saturday 2 September (no activity Monday 28 August) and young people must be available for all of these days.
This intensive performance experience is free for young people to participate in, and there is a free introductory workshop for anyone interested in signing up on:
Friday 4 August, 2-4pm at Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch
During the workshop the young people will be introduced to the ideas behind New Beginning, exploring design and immersive experience. The session will offer introductions to movement improvisation and how to create performance that engages audience members. We will explore themes of the forest, working with poems inspired by the magic and wonder of these incredible environments.
For more information, or to sign up for the introductory workshop, please email Lotte Sartain (Young People’s Producer) on: LotteS@queens-theatre.co.uk
