Habbit Factory bring over 150 local children to perform a show they created themselves at the Queen’s Theatre.
The Habbit Factory took 150 local children and young people to perform at the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch, a show that they created themselves. “The Toy Factory” was created in 2018 and was three weeks away from being performed before the pandemic stopped them.
Supported by over 45 local volunteers, the young people told a story of an old toy shop named BITS. Opened in 1966 and happily run by Bert Ives and his family but times have changed with screens and devices dominating children’s lives, BITS is facing challenges like never before. They performed to over 950 people over the two days with their celebrity patron Lucy Benjamin stating: “This is the future of theatre”.
The Habbit Factory is an arts organisation situated in the London Borough of Havering, established in 2004 with a mission to promote change to model inclusivity. Their philosophy is centred around the belief that everyone, irrespective of their abilities or background, is welcomed. They collaborate with children and young adults to create performances that entertain and challenge stigma amongst the audience. Their motto ‘where everyone can have their moment in the spotlight‘ aligns with their vision of an inclusive world where the arts is accessible to all. Their approach of not conducting auditions reflects this ideology and they are once again recruiting young people to join their production line for next years performance. If you get in touch sooner rather than later you may also be able to join in time to take part in their annual pantomime, which this year is titled “Rapunzel” at the Myplace Centre.
Joining The Habbit Factory is completely fee-free. While there is no obligation, they kindly suggest considering a monthly donation of £15 to support their ongoing work. For more information about the Habbit Factory and how to join please visit http://www.thehabbitfactory.org
