The Aveley Angling Club recently organised an open day for the general public, and it proved to be an incredible event. The club extends its heartfelt appreciation to all the individuals who contributed their time and assistance, both on the day itself and throughout the preceding two weeks.

The turnout for the event was remarkable, with a total of over a hundred people, including 32 enthusiastic children. Attendees were treated to a mouthwatering array of treats, with 44 delectable cakes, over 100 burgers, and more than 100 hotdogs on offer. To combat the summer heat, everyone enjoyed refreshing servings of ice cream. Adding to the excitement, two bouncy castles were set up for everyone’s enjoyment.

A special acknowledgment goes to Dan, who skillfully manned the BBQ and ensured that appetizing food was readily available. The event also featured lively music provided by Barry, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere. Their dedication and efforts played a significant role in making the day a resounding success.

The event prizes were generously sponsored by Bob Robertsons, Grayham Green, and Frank Connolly. Furthermore, the club expresses its gratitude to Steve Morgan from Mainline Baits for supplying the trophies. The open day would not have been possible without the sponsorship of Ian and Brian Russell from Folgate Insurance. The club is grateful for their support and contributions.

In a stroke of luck, the weather was on their side. Despite initial concerns, the day remained pleasant, and attendees were spared from any unexpected rain showers. This added an extra layer of enjoyment to an already fantastic occasion.

Chairman Peter Frostick took the opportunity to express his gratitude to all those involved. He thanked the volunteers, participants, and sponsors for their unwavering support, which significantly contributed to the overall success of the open day.

The fishing competition posed a challenge due to the persistent high winds and intermittent rain showers. However, this did not dampen the spirits of the participants, who managed to catch fish despite the adverse conditions. The competition results were as follows:

  • Joey Tindale secured first place with an impressive catch weighing 6lb 9oz.
  • Jack Lee and Harry Lee claimed second place with their catches weighing 3lb 14oz each.
  • Archie Quarn earned third place, with his catch weighing 3lb 5oz.

Throughout the entire day, the open day welcomed local children who are not junior members or whose parents are not members of the club. It was heartening to see their enthusiastic participation, as the event provided them with an opportunity to experience the joys of angling and become a part of the angling community.

The Aveley Angling Club expresses its sincerest gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the open day. The club looks forward to organising more events in the future, fostering a love for angling and creating memorable experiences for all.
