‘If we are unable to collection donations, we are unable to provide donations’-how ULEZ will impact vital charities in our communities.
In just a matter of weeks the ultra low emission zone is set to expand across all outer London boroughs despite its fierce objections by many Conservative councils. However, the impact it will have on charities here in Havering are vast and some actually fear how their community can continue to be supported.
The Baby Bank HQ is not only a fantastic local charity whose work across east London and Essex is vital for so many families, but it has won endless awards for the incredible work it does. The Baby Bank supports countless families. It is a non profit organisation that provides families with clothes and essential baby products.
The charity has seen high demands for their services across Havering and other London boroughs. Sadly, now the van they use daily, is not ULEZ compliant.
“We are genuinely devastated that come August, our van will no longer be viable for us to use,” Clare tells the Havering Daily.
“We are a small organisation with very little funding and the van is our lifeline.
“We use this to collect and distribute donations to struggling families. If we are are unable to collect donations, we are unable to provide the donation. Therefore, this will limit the support we are able to provide the 20+ families we are helping each week.”
The van charity workers use is a vital tool for them to be able to keep their incredible community work going. Now they find themselves at a loss, not knowing how they can go forward.
However, not only will ULEZ impact the charity as a whole, but also their volunteers whose work is so important.
Clare finished: “This will also hugely impact our team and volunteers who will face the same issue with their own vehicles.”
A go fund me page has been sent up to help fund for a new van.
