‘Horrendous Harold Hill flats have always been full of drug users’.
Following yesterday’s article in the Havering Daily regarding a mother’s desperate plea to move her family from the flats on Farnham Road, a former resident has spoken out about the endless issues there.
“We left there in 2022 and were very happy to leave. Myself and my wife were raising our children there and was truly awful. The drug users were there every day at the stairwell and would not leave. When myself and my family would try and go down the stairs to leave, the stairs were always full of addicts literally taking drugs in front of everyone walking by.
“I remember on one occasion I actually had to walk my dog down the stairs to clear everyone out.
“I understand how people do not feel safe there. It isn’t safe when the doors, both front and back, are permanently broken, the floor is covered with needles, drunks and drug addicts are using the place as a toilet.
“My wife remembers coming down the stairs and seeing a man lying on the ground not moving, surrounded by needles. She really feared he had died, it was so sad.”
The man was lucky to move his family away from this environment, and cannot believe that the flats are in the same condition, three years on.
“When I read the article yesterday, I realised that nothing had changed and if anything, things have actually deteriorated. It is sad to see that people living there have to put up with what we did.
“It has always had anti social behaviour there and people gathering at the stairwell. It was something we were used to. We expected seeing people at the bottom of the stairs either taking drugs or using it as a toilet. There have been many fights there too.
“I really hope this mum gets to move her children away from there, as it is not a place you want to raise a family.”
Havering Council have stressed that they will be carrying out immediate repairs to the doors and that the block of flats is part of improvements program that is due to start in September this year.
