Police officers receive praise after woman brutally stabbed eighteen times in Hornchurch car park.

Earlier this month Havering police officers were commended for supporting a female and securing evidence which resulted in a 25 year prison sentence.

On 28 June 2021, officers received multiple 999 calls from members of public that a woman had been stabbed numerous times in a supermarket car park in Hornchurch and that they had detained the suspect in the back of a taxi.

The members of public that helped with securing the suspect, have since received commendations from the Assistant Commissioner for Front Line Policing which was presented to them at New Scotland Yard earlier this year.

Officers were only round the corner when the call came in and immediately swooped into action.

One officer detained the suspect and promptly arrested him for attempted murder, whilst the other officers attended to the victim and performed first aid.

The Helicopter Emergency Medical Service and the Ambulance service soon arrived and performed advance first aid on the victim before transporting her to Royal London Hospital. Thankfully, the victim survived having been stabbed approximately eighteen times all over her body.

The fast time response, commitment and emergency life-saving efforts, displayed from all officers that attended this victim was outstanding and gave the victim the best possible chance of survival. The initial investigation resulted in all lines of enquiry being conducted in a timely fashion and enabled detective colleagues to secure a charge of Attempted Murder and Possession of an Offensive Weapon.

The suspect received a sentence of twenty five years imprisonment.
