A special march against violence towards women and girls was held at Valentine’s Park in Ilford yesterday (Monday 26 June). The event was organised by April Mehmet founder of Walk It Out, a campaign that tackles against violence towards women.

Many community members attended alongside our police officers led by Superintendent Lisa Butterfield who took part in the walk from one side of the park to the other.

April and her team have been working hard with the community and Redbridge police officers to support women. Regular walks are held across different parks for women to join and talk about any concerns or issues they may have.

April also helps women’s well being by supporting different forms of safety training.

Walk it out is a fantastic campaign that really unites both men and women in the bid to stop the horrendous violence.
