Romford’s Big Toddler Event a huge success.
Romford BID and Romford Shopping Hall are pleased to announce that Saturday’s Big Toddle Event was a tremendous success. Over 70 children took part in the sponsored walk around market place to raise money for Barnardo’s.
The event took place between 10am – 2pm on Saturday 17th June and raised £289 in donations on the day, however each child also had a sponsorship form and all monies raised thereafter will also go directly to Barnardo’s. This essential charity offers counselling and support for children, young people and their parents across the UK. Big Toddle is a national event and has so far raised over £55,000 for Barnardo’s.
The walk commenced at 1pm and families were joined by Havering Mayor, Councillor Stephanie Nunn and Consort Councillor Barry Mugglestone. The team at Romford BID and Romford Shopping Mall ran the event, supported by three students from Marshalls Park Academy. The event was aimed at under 5’s although older siblings were welcome to join in, and all participants received a medal and certificate on the day.
On the day families were also able to attend a free nature themed craft corner where children could paint little bird boxes and make binoculars and paper chain snakes. Children could also get their faces painted for free and had the chance to meet several different animals brought to the event by Animal Encounters.
The bird box creations will contribute to a new Bug Garden, a welcoming new environmental space in Romford Town designed to encourage diversity of marvellous minibeasts who help to support Romford’s ecological system.
Julie Frost, Romford BID Director told the Havering Daily: “Saturday was such a special and well attended event. Families loved the variety of entertainment on offer and the fact their bird box creations will have a long-term place in the town. A special thanks to everyone involved – especially Animal Encounters, who helped us deliver some memorable experiences. Barnardo’s is an incredibly important organisation within our community, so I am very pleased with what was raised on the day, and we expect even more to be raised through post event sponsorship forms.”
