In a world where environmental concerns are on the rise, it’s heartening to see communities coming together to tackle the issue of litter and waste. Roding Rubbish, a local group formed in response to the need for a cleaner environment, has been making waves in the community since its inception in March 2019. With their commitment to regular clean-up events and a spirit of camaraderie, Roding Rubbish has not only made a significant impact on the River Roding area but also fostered lasting friendships along the way.

Roding Rubbish began as a spontaneous idea, initiated through a Facebook event tied to the Great British Spring Clean. On that fateful day in March 2019, six dedicated individuals, including a councillor and six residents, showed up to participate in the first litter pick. Little did they know that this gathering would mark the birth of a movement that continues to grow to this day.

What started as a simple litter-picking event soon transformed into something magical. After hours spent working tirelessly in the mud along the riverbank, the participants gathered for a well-deserved meal and realized they shared a common bond. They were all passionate about creating a cleaner environment and were determined to continue their efforts. Thus, Roding Rubbish was born, and the group has been gaining momentum ever since.

Roding Rubbish has organized and coordinated an impressive 48 clean-up events. In their pursuit of a cleaner community, the group has collected an astounding 5,638 bags of rubbish. Their efforts have extended beyond the ordinary, with 37 abandoned shopping trolleys, various bulk items such as bicycles, TVs, mattresses, and even an animal skull being removed from the environment.

As Roding Rubbish continues to gain recognition, more and more people are joining the cause. However, the group understands that true change requires widespread participation. Instead of simply complaining about the litter problem, they urge others to be part of the solution. The group encourages residents to take pride in where they live and set an example for younger generations. By actively participating in community groups like Roding Rubbish, individuals can foster a sense of responsibility towards their environment.
