Romford MP calls for end to hotel accommodation for asylum seekers as Home Office plans capacity increase at local hotel.
Andrew Rosindell, Member of Parliament for Romford, today expressed deep concern at the Home Office’s plans to increase the capacity of the contingency accommodation site at Ibis Styles Romford by 126 bedspaces.
“This is a clear sign that much more needs to be done to address the root causes of illegal migration instead of resorting to warehousing asylum seekers in hotels,” said Mr Rosindell. “The use of hotels for asylum accommodation is not only inappropriate, but a waste of taxpayers’ money. This policy should end.”
Mr Rosindell went on to say that the Government must push ahead with the utilisation of offshore processing facilities, such as those used by Australia. “Offshore processing would both deter illegal migration, while also providing asylum seekers with a safe and humane environment in which to make their claims,” he said.
The Romford MP concluded by urging the government to abandon its plans to increase the capacity of the contingency accommodation site at Ibis Styles Romford and to adopt a more effective approach to asylum processing.

We lack the infrastructure that can accommodate these people as well as the mechanisms in place to ensure that they are assimilated into the community – yet above all else, we cannot be certain that their claims are legitimate.
