Knife crime suspects serve their sentence-families serve a life sentence as the pain never goes away.’

Three bereaved mothers met London Mayor Sadiq Khan yesterday, Thursday 1 June to talk about the horrors of losing a child to knife crime

Peguy Kato from All Champion’s Charity, Sue Hedges from the Ricky Hayden Memorial and Julie Taylor from the Liam Taylor Legacy, attended a knife crime summit hosted by Havering and Redbridge GLA Member Keith Prince at City Hall and had the opportunity to chat with the Mayor. Mr Khan sat and listened to their stories and the challenges they face on a daily basis, and added his support to the importance of the bleed kit installation across the capital.

The Mayor had been invited by Mr Prince and took the time to come and meet the bereaved parents and anti knife crime campaigners to discuss ways forward in the battle against knife crime.

The three mother alongside anti knife crime campaigners spoke at the event about the battle against knife crime.

Peguy told the Havering Daily: “It is important that we work with our youth, they are our future. Without them we are lost. Those who kill with a knife serve their sentence, but us as parents, serve life sentences as the pain never goes away.”

Sue Hedges told the Havering Daily: “I sat at the Old Bailey for 35 days and was ashamed to be British with the justice system we have here. There is no deterrent for knife crime. Our children are murdered on the streets and no one cares.

“Thank you to the Mayor Sadiq Khan for taking the time to listen to us today and thank you to Keith Prince our GLA Member for giving us the opportunity to be here.”

Julie Taylor told the Havering Daily: “We seem to accept knife crime, it seems part of our society, this is all wrong it isn’t part of our society and needs to stop. Parents should not live in fear or be afraid every time their children go out.”

Mr Prince then chatted with the parents and campaigners on ways to go forward and how he can support them in the battle against knife crime. Mr Prince has been very supportive of these parents and is working alongside the Mayor to help fight knife crime.
