Margaret Mullane, Labour’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham, commented on the regeneration plans for Dagenham and Rainham and the area stretching through the Thames estuary. Jon Cruddas MP hosted a high powered event at the Houses of Parliament attended by government Ministers, Council leaders and the Chair of Thames Freeport to consider the vision to regenerate the subregion.

Margaret told the Havering Daily: “It’s great that leaders are coming together to plan for the future of the area. I am particularly pleased that the case was made again for the government to lift it’s nonsensical blocking of the promised and much needed Beam Park station.”

Margaret added: “In all the plans for growth and regeneration it is essential that this is not at the expense of the existing population. So, for me, in all the planning the clear objective must be to create thriving communities and places where people want to put down roots for the future. Just building lots of flats is not the answer, the infrastructure to support people and families has to be in place, that means the schools, health centres, policing and shops and leisure facilities must be provided alongside the housing.

“When it comes to the new homes, I will be campaigning for at least half to be genuinely affordable for local people with our local councils taking the lead in the provision of the housing.”
