Members of Havering’s Climate Coalition have written a letter to Councillor Ray Morgon, leader of Havering Council asking for a meeting between Councillors, the Arnold’s Field Launders Lane land owner and members of Launder Lane CRISIS group.

The climate campaigners have asked that the meeting take place within 24 hours of the receipt of their letter to Councillor Morgon.

The letter states how the borough’s climate activists are rightly ‘deeply concerned’ about the serious health impacts of the harmful emissions as a consequence of the constant underground fires and are supporting the plight of residents in Havering particularly those living closest to the area.

Ruth Kettle-Frisby from Havering Climate Coalition and Rosina Purnell from Havering Friends of the Earth were both present at a meeting two weeks ago in Rainham held by the Launders Lane CRISIS group.

Residents living near the area are desperate for help and feel completely let down by all the authorities, who have still failed to invite the land owner to a meeting and discuss important ways forward.

Talks have taken place, but nothing concrete has so far been accomplished and as a result our climate activists are supporting Rainham residents and urging this vital meeting as a way forward.
