Havering police officers yesterday May held a burglary and vehicle crime initiative day across Harold Hill.

Following a request from the local ward panel meetings, an operation was planned by the Harold Hill Neighbourhood Team and Havering Joint Taskforce to target vehicle crime and burglary within the local area.

This was completed by using an automated number plate reader, along with police spotters from the local Safer Neighbourhood Teams to try and target offenders.

Street Duties were on their Day 1 staffed the stop zone and were dealing with all members of the public.

The operation saw:

8 searches completed.

1 male arrested failing to appear on driving offences.

1 male arrested for failing to appear for breach of court order.

1 vehicle failed to stop at the site and was found decamped nearby by the Havering Joint Task Force.  It was on False Plates and has now been recovered.

1 knife recovered and small quantity of drugs found.

In total approximately 60 vehicles were stopped and the majority of checks were satisfactory.  Words of advice were also given to numerous drivers regarding more minor issues.

Sergeant Richard Ruane said :“The day was a success and we achieved some great results in our tackle to drive down vehicle crime and burglary in Harold Hill. We will continue to use these tactics to disrupt offenders on our streets of Havering. Congratulations to the Street Duties team who had a fantastic first day on the Borough, I wish them every success in their Policing career”.
