‘Havering Islamic Centre carries out excellent work in Romford and Havering’-Councillor Judith Holt.
Sunday 14 May saw special community celebrations held at Havering Islamic Cultural Centre.
Local elected representatives were pleased to attend the Eid Party and Community Day at the centre, on Bridge Close, Romford, on Sunday 14th May.
The group, which included The Mayor of Havering, Andrew Rosindell M.P. for Romford, Councillor Keith Prince AM and Local Ward Councillors, were warmly welcomed by Mr Tariq-Ur-Rahim Lone, Chairman of the Mosque, Major Pervez Badruddin MBE, Secretary, the Trustees and all the HICC Community.
They enjoyed visiting all the stallholders – which included St. Francis Hospice, ieducate in Victoria Road, the police and others selling delicious food. Then, the group listened to an update on the HICC’s plans for the future in light of the Bridge Close redevelopment, plus were shown the new food bank in the neighbouring building.
Councillor Judith Holt, Ward Councillor for St. Alban’s Ward where the mosque is located, said:
“We were given another very warm welcome by The Trustees and everyone at the mosque. I was pleased to meet again so many members of the Muslim Community in Romford and Havering. There was much to enjoy on a sunny afternoon and I especially liked the cake stall! The HICC carries out excellent work in Romford through its food bank and soup kitchen, so they deserve our friendship and support.”
The centre offers a Wednesday evening soup kitchen and Saturday morning food bank.
